The Charleston Pilots have been ordering Hunt-designed pilot boats for more than 20 years, and decided to add two fast 75-footers to their fleet of two 55-footers and a 38. In March 2010, a 3rd Charleston Class vessel was delivered to the Lake Charles Pilots. The increased size and higher performance of the new vessels reflect the demand for more frequent trips further offshore, as well as station-holding capabilty. The Hunt Deep-V hull, refined over 40 years, delivers a smooth, dry ride at speed. One of the most difficult requirements in pilot service is good handling and control alongside large vessels underway; Hunt-designed pilot boats excel in this demanding situation.
